Great Expectations

As a teenager I fully expected that by this time of life I would own and utilize a personal aircraft levitated and propelled by an antigravity drive which would be much smarter than I am. An intelligent personal aircraft specifically attuned to my needs and desires, fully equipped to be capable of always location tending one minute (or less) from wherever I might be, ready at any moment to pick me up and rapidly transport me to wherever I wanted to go to next. A sleek, quiet, stealthy personal aircraft with unasailable security features to protect itself and its owner, and amenities any good camping rig would require for comfort.

Imagining how it would enrich and empower these final decades of existence living apart from the hectic rat race to explore and reflect on life experiences in peace and quiet at any location I desired did not seem too much to expect of this burgeoning civilization of ours.

Dropping me off and then diligently guarding as I did whatever I might be up to at the time.

And, I imagined the cities would be much more advanced than they are today as antigrav drives were employed in all aspects of travel and convenience. But civilization just hasn't kept pace with my great expectation, only now venturing into multi-prop VTOL technologies.

Ah, well. It was fun dreaming of what might be. And it isn't so horrible what has come about.
