Caged Crapola

The current state of politics in the United States of America is just a lot of on-screen crapola.

American political history has always had its share of criminal behavior, from the smoke-filled rooms of Tammany Hall to the Watergate break-in. Historically, however, these infractions were treated as liabilities to be shrouded in secrecy or met with contrite resignations. The public standard, even if superficial, demanded pretense of institutional dignity and decorum.

Today, that pretense has given way to an era of pure, unadulterated political crapola. Misconduct, legal jeopardy, and systemic crime-breaking are no longer hidden in the shadows–they are concocted, packaged, broadcast, and sold as high-octane prime-time crappertainment. Rather than avoiding criminality, modern political figures actively lean into it as pure spectacle, transforming courtrooms into stages, indictments into battle cries, and legal defenses into long, drawn out theatrical performances. It's what the public craves most.

In this transformed landscape, political governance mirrors sensationalized pro-wrestling matches. Criminal acts are no longer disqualifying offenses; they are theatrical props designed to outrage audiences, drive media ratings, and mobilize bases. The ultimate evolution of modern politics lies not simply in the presence of criminal acts, but in their complete conversion into lucrative, screen extravaganza where spectacle replaces substance.
