Slimy Shields

Pulling litigational chicanery, they think they've shielded themselves effectively. And though many might admire them for it, even more are disgusted to see how they manipulated laws.

Suing oneself then procedurally filing notice to voluntarily drop the lawsuit rather than submit a standard consent decree for the court's signature effectively allowed set up of a $1.8B slush fund at expense of taxpayers. Voluntary dismissal effectively removed the case from the court's docket immediately. This slick-as-slugshit maneuver successfully closed the case under U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams, preventing the court from evaluating whether the settlement constituted unlawful self-dealing or an abuse of power. Some initiated actions to attempt to stop any such criminal behavior might prevail, but by the time they do manage to get a ruling to counter it, the $1.8B will have longsince been dolled out to who knows what nefarious parties, very likely too late to be clawed back by any legal means. No one paying attention is fooled by it, though, further cementing foul reputations.
