Plans

Updated: 2 days ago

About a year from now my plan was to sit out on the porch of my custom-built wilderness dream home to enjoy a cup of coffee, a slice of homemade sourdough bread slathered with homemade chokecherry jelly, and take in this delightful view at sunrise:

As it is, that will never happen now because the USFS completely destroyed the vast, pristine forestland shown in this photo. The old growth conifers, the aspen stands, the scattered, secretive oak, maple and crabapple groves, and meadowlands...all of it burned to ash all the way up the slope to Gascon Point. And even if I wanted to rebuild here to stare out over the depressing sight of charred tree skeletons from this spot, the groundwater is now too contaminated with heavy metals which have leached into the aquifer to be safely consumed by living creatures, and the surrounding slopes are too treacherously unstable to remain safely in place, just begging for a monsoon rain long enough to set them free.

All of this damage is unhealable within my remaining decades of life, completely ruining the wilderness property as a place to ever live on again. So I had to come up with new plans and put them into motion while FEMA keeps fire victims firmly chained to tables of torture in its dungeons of bureaucratic horrors. First, find a new parcel of property to rebuild the homestead on, acquire the parcel, set up temporary housing on the parcel, choose the new homesite on the parcel, prepare for construction of infrastructure and new house there, find and hire a good builder, then authorize construction of the new house.

The camping rig served well while hunting for the new parcel, and now a nice destination trailer has been set up on it for temporary housing while the new house is being designed and built. As angry as I am at the USFS for forcing me into this protracted inconvenience after completely ruining my wilderness homestead, I have to admit it's exciting and more fun than I expected it would be making these new plans and bringing them to full fruition.

And now, house design ideas begin to rise . . .
