Cellar Door

The old cellar is pleasant to look at. Nothing extraordinairy, just pleasant. But the first and last time spent sheltering from a tornadic storm system in it revealed the reality of its obsolecence. Hand dug and its walls made of stone, it's still functional, but it's just too jinky for aged folks to get down into quickly. As we were entering it, we had to move extremely slowly to avoid injury in its steep, narrow stairway. And that door, a heavy, worrisome threat.

As we finally finished descending, the firsts blasts of storm wind whipped up wildly and I barely had time to stop it from bashing me as it was pushed over by a particularly hard gust. So the new shelter was quickly ordered, promptly delivered and installed for easy future use.

The old cellar will remain in place just as it is now, serving as overflow shelter for young folks.
