Because it won't.
On this 250th anniversary of independence from the nation many of my ancestors departed to better experience life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, reflection upon my decades living here has me wondering how much longer this highly-manufactured reality will continue. Having survived so far being a citizen of the USA, futher reflection exposes the stark realization that the most volatile aspect impacting my future is the U.S. Government. It has attempted several times to destroy me, and I doubt that trend of harsh treatment is over. So being a project planning creature, an attempt to discover and plot the future emerges.

The most important thing on this graphic is probably the single word in the lower righthand corner because an end seems to be inevitable given the arc of most likely future outcomes.
Prodding at current trends which will certainly affect future events, more detail specifics about how, where and when declines will most likely occur over the next ten years across the nation call for a descriptive graphic. The graphic is pretty, but its message is bleak and grim.

The 10-Year Descent: From Superpower to Fractured State
The Energy Shock & Interceptor Crisis 2026 - 2027
Following the 2026 war with Iran and ongoing friction in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. depletes its premium precision missile and air-defense stockpiles. Prolonged maritime disruptions drive retail fuel to record highs, kicking off permanent stagflation. Deepening supply bottlenecks halt the rapid replenishment of critical defense systems.
The Sovereign Debt Wall & De-Dollarization 2028 - 2030
Aggressive international expansion of BRICS+ bilateral trade bypasses the SWIFT system (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication), severely reducing global demand for petrodollars. Offshore greenbacks flood back to domestic markets, permanently debasing purchasing power. U.S. federal interest payments surpass the core defense budget, triggering structural austerity.
The Industrial Gridlock & Tech Decoupling 2031 - 2033
Elite overproduction and hyper-factionalized political gridlock paralyze federal regulatory bodies. Major tech infrastructure, manufacturing hubs, and hyperscale data centers decouple from the volatile public utility grids, constructing private, closed-loop natural gas and solar microgrids to ensure operational survival. This is already happening as multiple corporations and institutions create their own microgrids.
The Agricultural Deficit & De-Facto Balkanization 2034 - 2036
Long-term natural gas and chemical feed constraints trigger a structural crisis in synthetic nitrogen fertilizer production, dropping per-acre crop yields by 20-30%. The federal center loses the ability to enforce uniform economic policy, prompting resource-rich states to hoard energy and food supplies while the interior self-manages.
The Macro Trajectory: These arc diagrams demonstrate that the system doesn't break from a single external blow. Instead, it fractures when cost of maintaining an overextended global empire drains resources, infrastructure, and cohesion required to sustain the domestic core. Bottom line, the good times cannot endure through another decade as the shit hits the fan.
