Having read everything I can find of David Brin's creations, I'm now deep into the writings of Greg Bear and loving every word. Greg's stories are unexpectedly engaging from paragraph one, a paragraph which isn't attempting to snag attention through shock tactics as much as draw readers into the character of the story protagonist in an unusually unobtrusive manner.
I'm just getting into Blood Music now and Bear has me firmly in his story telling grip. Looking forward to each phase of this strange speculative fiction journey.
